Community Participation

Community participation is about being part of your community in ways that matter to you.

At Acorn Homes, we support people to get out, try new things, build connections, and take part in everyday activities.

There’s no “right” way to participate. What matters is that it’s meaningful to you.

Our supports are flexible and person-led. We don’t push people into activities or make assumptions about what they should enjoy. Instead, we listen, support your choices, and back you to build confidence, independence, and connection at your own pace.

Community participation isn’t about ticking boxes. It’s about living a full life, on your terms.

Community participation is usually funded through Core Supports - Assistance with Social and Community Participation in your NDIS plan. If you're unsure if you're funded for this, reach out to us by clicking the enquire button. Alternatively, contact your Support Coordinator or NDIA planner/LAC.

What is Community Participation?

Community Participation, is also called community access, and can look like:

Getting out and about in your local community, in ways that feel comfortable and safe

Taking part in social activities, groups, or hobbies that match your interests

Catching up with friends, meeting new people, or strengthening social connections

Attending appointments, like the GP, or important events, like family Christmas.

Community participation doesn’t have to be loud or busy, a regular coffee, a walk, or a shared activity can be just as valuable.

Why choose us?

Your community, your way

We support participation that actually means something to you, not activities chosen to tick a box or to cover workers shift times.

No pressure, no assumptions

We don’t decide what you should enjoy or how social you should be. You set the pace, and we support you there.

Connection over compliance

Our focus is real relationships and confidence-building, not attendance sheets or forced outcomes.

Consistent, thoughtful support

No support over public holidays can make it very hard to maintain a routine. With Acorn Homes, we're there when you need us.

We respectfully acknowledge the past and present traditional owners of the land, the traditional custodians, and respect their culture and identity which has been bound up with the land and sea for generations.
